2.4 Curriculum, Assesment and Qualification


2.4.1 League tables and SATS

2.4.1.1. Abolish league tables and Sats - some external testing is necessary, but SATS so very often restricts teaching to `teaching to the test’ and results in undue stress.


2.4.2. Curriculum

2.4.2.1. Introduce a new gold-standard Technical Baccalaureate for 16 -18-year-olds.

2.4.2.2. Ensure that all young people study English and Maths to the age of 18.

2.4.2.3. Promote the take up of STEM subjects in schools, retain coding on the National Curriculum and encourage entrepreneurship at all level.


2.4.3. Qualification

2.4.3.1.  Strenthen school leadership and govenance.  We will provide rapid support and intervention to help ensure that all schools become good or outstanding.  Our Talented Head Teacher Programme will expand, helping move top leaders to where they are most needed.

2.4.3.2. Increase the number of Teaching Schools - centres of teaching excellence that provide support to other schools.

2.4.3.3.  Guarantee all teachers in state-funded schools will be fully qualified or working towards Qualified or working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

2.4.3.4.  Establish a new professional-led Royal College of Teachers, eventually to overseee the Qualified Techer Status and professional development.

2.4.3.5.  Continue to support the Teach First programme to attach high calibre graduates into teaching, in particular in STEM subjects.

2.4.3.6.  Establish a new National Leadership Institute to promote high quality leadership and help the best leaders into the most challenging schools.
