6.1 Courts and Justice incl. Criminal Law and Procedure

6.1.1 Death Penalty

6.1.1.1. If rehabilitation of the individual is impossible then, the state will be allowed to end the life of the criminal rather than enabling them to spend the rest of their lives incarcerated.

6.1.1.2. The death penalty will be self-administered and will be at the consent of the prisoner.


6.1.2. Criminal Procedures

6.1.2.1.  Change sentencing guidelines to increase sentences available for hate crimes

6.1.2.2. Give victims of crime a right to review what progress police have made to investigate the crime committed against them including cases where the police have declined to investigate.

6.1.2.3.  Implement the Modern Slavery Strategy to reduce people trafficking and support victims.


6.1.3. Drugs

6.1.3.1.   Adopt the approach used in Portugal where those arrested for possession of drugs for personal use are diverted into treatment, education or civil penalties that do not attract a criminal record.

6.1.3.2.  As a first step towards reforming the system, legislate to end the use of imprisonment for possession of drugs for personal use, diverting resources towards tackling organised drug crime instead.

6.1.3.3.  Continue to apply severe penalties to those who manufacture, import or deal in illegal drugs, and clamp down on those who produce and sell unregulated chemical highs.

6.1.3.4.  Establish a review to assess the effectiveness of the cannabis legalisation experiments in the United States and Uruguay in relation to public health and criminal activity.

6.1.3.5. Legislate to make the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs independent in setting the classification of drugs, while remaining accountable to Parliament and the wider public.

6.1.3.6.  Put the Department of Health rather than the Home Office in charge of drug policy.
